Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) or Employee and Family Assistance Programs (EFAP) provide employees with confidential and anonymous access to a variety of resources, support and counseling. These services are generally offered around the clock and all year round by toll-free phone, online or referral to in-person therapists.
EAPs first came about as a way to provide alcohol and substance abuse programs to employees. They soon evolved to include mental health, grief counseling and emotional support services. Today, EAPs cover a broad spectrum of issues including: health, wellness, legal, financial, parenting, elder care, education, retirement, stress management, interpersonal skills and everyday issues.
